The Chronicles of Sign Making: Shelby Rodeffer

The Chronicles of Sign Making

Shelby Rodeffer

Have you ever walked down an avenue, waltzing past rows of restaurants, bars, pubs, grills, and small boutiques or shops, and noticed their individual signs that market their company?  Would you be surprised to know that designing and creating stores signs is actually someone's career?

Shelby Rodeffer is a professional fine artist, letterer, and painter.  Her work is oriented in Chicago, Illinois.  She now owns her own business as a professional sign maker, which provides her the flexibility to pursue personal projects in her spare time.

She also voiced the rigors of being a modern sign artist.  Since the internet popped up, companies and small businesses could whip up a logo no problem.  A lot of sign makers retired, and the career industry of sign making took a turn toward extinction.  In fact, only one college in the United States offers an associate degree program in sign making - located in California.

Her art is based with the theory of pop culture in mind, with a recent focus on feminism artwork.  Below are some of her works:

She has an up and running website that showcases her artwork.  The link is attached below.
